Assisting Accounting Clerk

Peace Over Violence is a non-profit organization committed to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual domestic and interpersonal violence. The organization maintains a $6 million annual budget and requires assistance of a part-time, experienced, organized, detail-oriented assisting accounting clerk in basic tasks including recording journal entries, updating ledgers, tracking receivables/payables, and maintaining schedules, grant invoicing, assist with agency payroll and provide budget analysis. Under the direct supervision of POV’s Controller, the assisting account clerk will also analyze information, maintain, and complete accurate financial records and provide prompt, courteous responses to inquiries from, vendors, funders and POV employees. The Assisting Accounting Clerk will provide efficient, reliable support to the fiscal department team members. This position is temporary part-time with the possibility upon review to become full-time.     

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Record basic transactions in the journals and subsidiary journals and post entries to the ledgeraccounts with minimum supervision

  • Submit grant invoices to funders

  • Perform all duties related to Accounts Receivable: Processing of cash receipts including verifying coding, performing credit card reconciliations, data entry, and handling

  • Participate in the month-end closing of the books

  • Prepare monthly variance reports for assigned grants

  • Back up other staff, and assume other duties as required

  • Be ready to assume a workload that frequently necessitates an adjustment of priorities


  • One-three years of accounting experience in non-profit sector

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of people including clients, volunteers, and staff in anon-judgmental manner

  • Ability to relate in an empathetic, supportive, non-judgmental manner to victims and their families

  • Demonstrate initiative and professionalism; ability to work independently & maintain workload

  • Strong & effective oral & written communication skills; public speaking, facilitating group discussions

  • Ability to pass Department of Justice background check

  • Capacity to balance and provide self-care while meeting the demands of a crisis center

  • Computer Literacy required: email, Microsoft Office, and Internet basics

  • Flexible Schedule to fit varying shifts

  • Automobile needed with a valid driver’s license and insurance

  • Degree in accounting a plus
